Deer Valley #1 Again!

By admin

SKI Magazine 2011

Deer Valley is No. 1 again! Can’t anybody else out there groom trails with such precision you could roll a quarter between the cordu- roy ridges, from the top of Sterling lift all the way down to the Silver Lake Lodge? Can’t anybody else offer up a salad bar of exotic chanterelle mushrooms, finely chopped walnuts, fresh bread and savory slabs of Gruye?re beautifully arranged in concentric circles? Can’t anyone else marshal and competently train an army of ambassadors, greeters, staffers and just about everyone on the payroll to consistently solve any problem that pops up, from minor to vacation changing? Clearly the answer is no; nobody can. Deer Valley, with its pas- try chef’s attention to detail to say nothing of its pastry chef’s attention to pastry cares about every aspect of the skier experience. From the moment you pull up and a helpful resort employee saves you from the drudgery of lugging your kids (and all of their gear) off to ski school by helping you unload the car, to the final moments of the day when you can check your skis in for the night at the on-mountain ski vale at no charge. These are just a few of the reasons Deer Valley tops the charts in Service, not to mention On-Mountain Food, Lodging and Dining. To be sure, every Silver Lake Lodge has its cloud. Despite recent additions to the mountain’s expert terrain the Lady Morgan Express with its steep pitches and wide open bowls and an extension of the Sultan Lift that services the Triangle Trees, to name a few the resort ranks low in terrain categories, and is “not challenging enough” according to a good number of readers. To be honest, at least in this local’s opinion, those polled must have eaten one too many of the fresh, warm, manhole–cover sized chocolate chip cookies and never made it over to Daley Chutes. There they would have found 40-degree pitches that would challenge even the most experienced skier. Not surprisingly, most readers still loudly applaud Deer Valley’s skier only policy (“No snowboarders!” many rejoice). And whether they skied the groomers all day or tested themselves in the trees and the back bowls, everyone agrees time and time again a day spent in the greatest snow on earth, under the warming Utah sunshine, with a coda of a yeah, expensive beer is just about impossible to beat. Carrie Sheinberg What’s New - Deer Valley knows complacency is the hobgoblin of little minds...or something like that. So the resort is replacing 40 snowmaking guns with more energy efficient models to help create its famed carpet. / Mandatory Run / If it’s groomed: Wizard. Under the Wasatch Lift. It’s a heart- stopper. And a show-stopper if you’re good. Don’t Miss - We’ve said it before, but we still love it: The Snowpark Lodge’s seafood buffet.

"Class act. Five stars. For an overall ski experience, you can’t beat Deer Valley." The readers of SKI Magazine

Spring Skiing at Deer Valley Resort

Spring has arrived to Park City and Deer Valley Resort, with 4 more weeks of skiing at Deer Valley, which closes April 10, 2011.  Spring skiing offers some of the greatest conditions of the year, especially with the intermittent winter storms, bringing powder one day, corn snow the next.  A few things to remember about spring skiing;  use plenty of sun screen, skiing early is best as afternoon snow can be more difficult, as well as tiring.  Corn snow is the condition before the snow gets to a mashed potatoes type consistency and but corn snowcan be almost as good as a powder day!  And, as always, the cure to tired legs is a hot tub and get ready for the next day of sunshine!

Looking for something more activities during your stay.  The Park City Calendar of Events lists everything from children's events, sporting events, music, film, and cultural events in Park City.

It may be the first week of spring, but winter weather is heading our way.  Get out and enjoy our Greatest Snow on Earth."

February Fun Events with Empire Luxury Lodging

February is the month to visit Park City, Utah

Skiing this season has been nothing short of fantastic!  Skiing has been incredible, especially with a few new inches over night and more on the way this week. If you have not been here yet this season I encourage you not to miss the fantastic conditions!

Valentines Day is just around the corner and I would highly recommend making reservations for The Mariposa!  It is Deer Valley’s most romantic dining experience and beyond the atmosphere, the food is over the top.

I recently had the opportunity to eat at Deer Valley’s Fireside Dining.  It was sooooo delicious!  The raclette cheese with their houseFireside Dining at Empire Lodge made fig mustard and the strawberry chutney with tarragon, veal stew, beat salad and white chocolate Grand Marnier are among my favorites.  I also had the privilege of taking the sleigh ride to complete the evening.  It is a great place to bring the entire family.

Another February fun adventure is snowmobiling at Deer Valley’s Summit Meadows Adventures which is located just outside of Park City.  It is a great way to spend an afternoon with your friends and family.  We had an awesome time in the meadow while getting to know the machine. But nothing beats the views back into Park City; I almost forgot how beautiful it is.

Keep the Snow Dance going because it is working and we will see you on the slopes!
